Sites
• The monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa is located northeast of Chora. It was founded in 1088 by Alexios Komninos. It is built literally inside the rocks at an altitude of 300 meters from the sea and is visible only from the sea.
• The ruins of Ancient Arkesini, Ancient Minoa and Aegiali.
• The church of Agios Georgios of Varsamitis
• The First High School, founded in Greece after the Revolution of 1821, is located in Chora.
Chora, the capital of Amorgos, is built in the center of the island, invisible from the sea. The beautiful Cycladic architecture, the mills, the many churches and the narrow streets make Chora unique and one of the most traditional in the Aegean.
